Cage Wars was the first ever Cage Show to he held in the UK and Ireland. It was launched in 2001 in Portsmouth England and had competitors from Holland, America, France, Italy the UK and Ireland. Cage Wars was the show that started the whole, now flourishing, Caged MMA scene in the UK.
Universal trading, the owners of Cage Wars have continued to develop the show and the sport both in front of and behind the scenes. Cage Wars launched the first ever MMA dedicated magazine FIGHT Mag, which opened the door to show the publishing world that a dedicated MMA magazine could work. Today there are several MMA magazines available in the UK.
The Cage Wars team also brought Shooto to the UK and where involved in getting ADCC to allow individual trail tournaments in the Uk for the world best grappling show.
Cage Wars was featured on the first ever highly acclaimed MMA documentary "Rites Of Passage" by director Bobby Razak. The documentary "Underdogs" features the build up to the first show and follows Cage Wars fighters as they prepare to fight in the UK and California.
Cage Wars has introduced the MMA world to many fighters who have gone on to great things and also allowed past fighters to have another chance to hit the comeback trail. Fighters who have featured on Cage Wars are, Shonie Carter, Brian Gassaway, Seth Petrezzeli, Fransico Bueno,
Joachim Hanson, Jess Laudin, Tom Lamont, Sami Schaivo, Paul Jenkins, Josh Dempsey, Mark the Bear Smith, Remco Pardoel and many others.
The Cage Wars team have been behind some 30 live events and have placed fighters in many international competitions around the world. The Cage Wars ethos is to develop new talent and give past fighters another chance to start their comeback trail. All levels of fighters are welcome and treated with the respect and the honesty that they deserve.
